Original Yankee Stadium Grandstand Seat!

Item Description Image

Original Yankee Stadium grandstand seat number twenty-two (22)

Displays a beautiful plaque commemorating 50 years of baseball greatness

Originally Installed in 1923 this seat was removed from the stadium in 1973 during the 50th year anniversary remodeling

Once a green wooden seat that seemed to blend into a lush grass, eventually repainted to blue in 1966.

A seat that witnessed the extraordinary baseball history, including 27 world series, countless records, and the grandeur presence of Babe Ruth, Yogi Berra, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and numerous others.

To Obtain this chair in 1973, as a part of a Kent cigarette tie-in, you would have to bring an empty carton of Kents & $3.00 to Korvettes Department Stores (long ago bankrupt) & out back of their store you could select the chair you wanted. There is no certificate of authenticity (back then who thought of those things) but it did come with a little metal plaque (see photo).

Brief History of Yankee Stadium

In the 1920's Yankee Stadium could hold an astonishing 82,000 baseball fans! Many renovations later the stadium's capacity is now just over 57,000.  Officially, 74,200 fans packed Yankee Stadium for their first glimpse of Baseball's grandest facility while thousands more milled around outside after the fire department finally ordered the gates closed. Appropriately, Babe Ruth (in his first season since his trade from the Boston Red Sox) christened his new home with a three-run homer to cap a four-run third inning as the Yankees coasted to a 4-1 win.  Because it was widely recognized that Ruth's tremendous drawing power made the new stadium possible, it would immediately become known as "The House That Ruth Built." Later that season, the Stadium hosted the first of 33 World Series and the Yankees won their first World Championship over their former landlord, the Giants. Of course, as the Stadium became the stage for a staggering number of World titles-now totaling 25-it also would become known as "The Home of Champions."
